We have had several customers asking us why we use specific brands of connectors/platings on our cables. Some folks may ask why we use Furutech and Cardas terminations instead of say Oyaide or Xhadow. We have designed many cables over the years that call out for specific connector brands and plating based on cable synergy and price. Our Nexus and Virtuoso cables employ primarily Rhodium plated connectors as we feel this metallurgy is the best overall match. Rhodium plating offers a more neutral sonic presentation, high durability, with very low corrosion compared to silver, gold, plain copper, and brass.
Our Nexus cable line is our latest product offering for 2017. This breakthrough design replaces our original Reference and Vanguard cable lines. Nexus products employ higher quality parts while maintaining the same price points as our previous product lines.
Nexus cables feature 6N 99.9999% purity silver ribbon conductors housed in Teflon cores sheathed with a cotton-monofilament braid. Cables are terminated in premium Cardas Audio connectors featuring high definition Rhodium contacts.
Our Nexus silver ribbon cables offer speed, focus, and clarity of the entire musical range. Outstanding sonic performance and excellent value for the serious listener. Our customers are very pleased with our Nexus products. See the Reviews.
Hello Head-Fi Audiophiles,
Emails from a Head-Fi Discussion regarding our Premier Silver USB cable. Here are few questions and answers:
Does your cable meet USB 2.0 standards?
Would not a super high-speed USB 3.1 cable be superior?
How is it possible there is a sonic difference in a digital USB cable since there can be no data errors?
Do air cores and fancy metal braiding really help the sound?
Sorry, but high-end USB cables are bunk!
I received a few emails regarding the use of cable elevators with our cables. Do they make a sonic improvement? A little discussion follows.
Updated: Our customers have asked us if our wire is silver-plated copper and if not why is our price lower than some of the other cable makers. The answer is unplated pure silver wire and we have made it very clear in our product pages. Pure 6-Nines 99.9999% purity wire is not plated to meet this specification. Our Virtuoso products feature 7-Nines purity silver wire using the Ohno (OCC) process. Commonly used Plated wire is less than 4-Nines purity with many impurities.
I think this confusion may be due to many of our competitors using low quality plated wire which costs far less than unplated high purity silver wire. To offset the cost of this wire, a large quantity must be ordered and reordered under a negotiated supplier price contract. Many smaller companies do not have the resources to invest in this commitment.
Secondly, our cables are less complex than wire makers that employ multiple wire strands (rope lay) which drives up the cost. Our cable designs employ two to three conductors to eliminate dielectric distortion of multi-conductor designs.
In our original prototypes, we did experiment with plated wire but sonically it demonstrated brightness and edge. Unplated pure silver wire was much sweeter sounding with better focus akin to a good vinyl recording.
Some of our customers missed our Hubbell Cryoed Wall Outlet. Replace that 59 cent residential outlet and experience a solid electrical connection. It is a must for serious audiophiles. Be aware there are several suspicious Internet sales for Hubbell HBL5362 outlets:
Consider the cost of the outlet plus Cryo processing costs (including round trip shipping).
After months of critical testing we are pleased to announce our Virtuoso Signature RCA Interconnects. These cables are of similar design to the XLR version and feature Furutech Rhodium locking RCA plugs. Outstanding Class-A sonic attributes for single-ended components (tube lovers rejoice). One caveat: The RCA plugs are much larger than normal to fit the 12.7mm diameter cables and are not recommended for closely spaced RCA jacks less than 19mm (3/4") apart. View Product Page.
